Sleeping Samurai is an interactive entertainment company that appears at a variety of conventions to host battles by providing safe weapons for attendees to do battle with. The weapons are hand-crafted in the likeness of historical Japanese weapons, ranging from small daggers, the well-known katana, to 7-foot polearm weapons. All weapons are crafted carefully with quality materials and follow a precise, patented design.
Sleeping Samurai will be holding both exhibition and tournament-style battles during their time at XCON in the "battle pit." Exhibition matches are open-weapon and will incur a small fee per person. A katana will be loaned to a person who lacks a weapon, and the winner will be decided in the best of five rounds. If a weapon is bought or won at a convention, that person may use that weapon during exhibition matches for free. In a tournament, all matches are held in duels, and the style is either single katana or open weapon. They will be entry fee per person, regardless of previous weapons bought or won, and the first place winner is rewarded with their choice of any item from Sleeping Samurai's inventory.
The company bases their motto, "Chivalry isn't dead, it's only sleeping," on Japanese philosophies of honor, integrity, and respect. Samurai are always encouraged to follow these chivalrous ethics in and out of battle.
Magic The Gathering
